HW233A: Primary UD 15kV 133% TR-XLPE

Primary underground distribution cables are suited for installation in underground duct or directly buried in earth. These cables range in voltage rating from 5kV to 15kV. They are offered with a full concentric neutral which has the same capacity as the center conductor or a reduced neutral with one third the carrying capacity of the center conductor.

Application

Used for primary underground distribution.  Suitable for use in wet and dry locations, installed in underground duct, or direct burial. Rated for 15,000 volts or less at a temperature of 90˚C.

Conductor
  • Aluminum alloy 1350-H19, compressed Class B stranding, or unilay-compressed per ASTM B 231, or combination unilay (19 wires) per ASTM B 78.

Conductor Shield
  • Semi conducting cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE).

Insulation
  • Thermoset tree-retardant cross-linked polyethylene (TR-XLPE) 133% Insulated. Normal thickness of 0.220".

Neutral
  • Soft-annealed solid copper wires per ASTM B3, helically applied and uniformly spaced. Full or 1/3 neutral options

Jacket
  • Extruded to fill (encapsulated) black sunlight resistant linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE), with three red extruded stripes.

Additional Standards
  • ICEA S-94-649: Standard for concentric neutral rated cables 5 to 46kV.
